In attendance: Kathy Berrigan (WAR), Sharon Fredette (WAR), Christine Jeffers
(PAW), Andrea Plaziak (WWA), Regina Slezak (NPT), and Chris LaRoux (GVL).
The meeting was held at Greenville Public Library from 2 3:45 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting was to review additional loan periods desired by CLAN
members. The Chair (LaRoux) presented committee members with requests for loan
periods he received from CLAN members. There were ten loan periods requested, and
two more were brought to the meeting, for a total of twelve additional loan periods.
Discussion ensued regarding the number of loan periods allowed by Millennium software
and the effect of different fine rates, grace periods, and holds on that total number. In
order to meet our goal of having common loan rules to benefit patrons using (and
receiving materials from) multiple libraries and to keep the circulation system running at
an optimal level, we decided to limit the number of fines, grace periods, and loan periods.
The committee does not wish to usurp the authority of library boards, but wishes to
provide choices from which boards can choose. The committee recommends the
following:
Grace periods: none and either 1 or 2 days (to be determined by CLAN membership)
Fines: none, $.10, $.25, $1, $2, $10.
Loan periods: *21 days, holds allowed, 1 renewal
*21 days, no holds allowed, 1 renewal
21 days, no holds allowed, no renewal
*7 days, no holds allowed, no renewal
*7 days, holds allowed, no renewal
90 days, holds allowed, one renewal (literacy materials)
One or two days (to be determined by membership), no holds allowed, no
renewal ($10 per day finemuseum passes)
One hour, holds allowed, no renewal ($10 per hour fine--laptop
computers)
[* current loan period]
It is important that directors are educated as to the circulation system limitations, the need
to cooperate with other CLAN members, and the benefit to everyone by having consistent
rules.
In order to proceed further, the committee would need to have additional information on
how many rules are allowed by the system and exactly which rules are currently being
used.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris LaRoux
Chair
