Reference Working Group meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010

Discussed the following:

  • News from latest membership meeting – major topics – BTOP grant distribution of computers – patron self-registration – new website using drupal – preferred searches (how are patrons learning about this?)- experiment on packaging for delivery is this week – using receipt printers to print transit slips? Most libraries are doing this already
  • Suppression of records – more on this – steering taking up again
  • Ref roundtable in October – fine- tune topic-  Structure of presentation- Flyers
  • CE offerings this Fall at OLIS and OSL – EBSCO webinars
  • Communication – should RWG be doing more to contribute to better OSL communication?  HOW?
  • Nominations for new Chair of RWG?  Tabled for now, no one can take it on at this point – Pat will remain for now – looking for someone new in January?
  • Other – other meetings – Full membership on Nov. 4 at CUM – next Steering Oct 20
  • Encore use for OPACs – WAR is using as main access point on their OPACs – PAW was tagging in Encore for “Urban Fiction” – main problem for ref staff in using Encore still the mismatched “location” vs. “collection” find confusing for patrons and for limiting
  • Web related sites and or software people mentioned “SquareSpace”, “Engaged patrons”
  • Mentioned Joan’s message re: new job titles and personnel at OSL
  • Next meeting –  Wed. Oct. 13 at 2:15 at OSL offices

Discussed:

·     Facts on File online databases review – message from Joan – we will review and will ask Joan for OSL wide trials

·     Ref Roundtable – details, structure and set-up, refreshments, name tags, sign-ups

·     Scenarios for roundtable – reviewed examples and chose 6 for use at RRT – Pat will work on Talking Points – others will tweak scenarios
