Reviewed notes from previous meeting.  Since several people were not at that meeting, we covered some of this again.  Mentioned again the Encore upgrade due soon, Dec. 30.  Pat showed how NPT has handled Encore on their library website, people liked the Encore message and FAQ for patrons.   We also had another discussion about how libraries are responding to the customer-centric service model as presented by Ruth Barefoot (San Jose Way).  

IT help at libraries - PC troubleshooting - is an issue at some libraries that don't really have IT or tech staff - some problems fall to reference staff or whomever seems to have an interest or aptitude for tech stuff - discussed the who, when, why, what - bigger libraries naturally have more staff so have more tech staff - other libraries not so much - is collaboration a solution?? Or cooperative hiring of a tech person?? How to handle?  Might still have the  same problems, which is needing someone in house to solve more immediate problems and tend to day-to-day stuff - helps to have the right person in these positions - but hard to afford

Reference Roundtable suggested again for the Spring - since we all seem to be very interested in the customer-centric service model, whether San Jose way or Darien, Ct or other - and we all seem keen on talking about what people are doing, trying to do, how we as reference librarians see it - we think this should be our topic

Mentioned news from the latest full membership meeting - discussed the steps OSL has taken to deal with the hypothetical situation of a city or town opting out of OSL because of budgetary problems - involved and complicated to enforce but necessary and timely  -- hopefully these policies will not have to be enforced and may act as a deterrent to any city or town thinking of cutting library funding this way

Pat LaRose then gave a demonstration "preview" of the Relais ILL system.

RWG decided not to meet in December.  Next suggested meeting is :  Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 at 2:15 p.m. at the OSL offices.
