Warwick. Those in attendance: Pat LaRose (NPT), Barbara Bussart (WNS), Julie Holden (PAW), Diane Swindlehurst (EPL), Mary Anne Quinn (WAR), Linda Caisse (NKI), Lisa Davis (OSL), Lauri Burke (BAR)
Meeting came to order at 2:23 pm.
Discussion about minutes of the last meeting.
Discussion about Envisionware -
Some libraries are still waiting for installation, but most will be installed by beginning of July.
Wed., June 24, 9:30 - 11:30 - Envisionware Q & A at OSL offices
"disappearing clock" problem - seems to be a bug in the system - might need upgrade to fix
Reservations - if a patron reserves a computer and another one opens up before the reservation, the patron should be able to log into the open one
- this should cancel the reservation. There seems to be a message that pops up giving two options - the second option is the one to choose, even if it doesn't seem like the right one (something about getting less time - we don't have the exact wording of the message).
Can we get a list of the messages that might appear? The patrons see them, but by the time they come to us, the message is usually long gone.
It is possible to attach messages to the print module, such as "Do not leave valuables unattended", and/or "If print job is more than 20 pages or $5.00, please see reference staff (or whomever is governing printing). These would appear as people send jobs to the print release.
Millennium seems to be getting slower and slower - can Peter/Ken/Rick check into it?
Some discussion on computer use policies and their abusers - what do we do if there is a patron who habitually accesses inappropriate sites? Ban him/her from the computer, from the library? And for how long? BAR would like Internet policies sent to them.
If you have any anecdotal stories about computer usage in your library, please send them to Lisa. These are needed for the grant proposal from stimulus monies.
Materials selections - how is this done in your library? Individuals or committee, and how are materials actually selected - reviews, etc. Beth Johnson at CRA asked this. Reply to her or send her info.
Last copy retention cooperative policy - this will be more important as more and more libraries drastically weed their print reference collections. Lisa can create a list of last copies for reference items fairly simply. Should we post a list of what you wish to weed to allow other libraries to take items before they are discarded?
RELAIS ILL system -
Ties all catalogs in RI for searching - 1 interface for HELIN, schools, government libraries, and public libraries.
This will become active after September.
This will be completely web-based for public libraries - academics will have specific software.
Reference Roundtables -
Fall - possible topics - policies, laws, and legal issues ; problem solvers
Email Pat with your top 3 choices and we will suggest them to the general populace.
Next meeting: WEDNESDAY, July 8, at 1:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara J. Bussart (WNS)
