Reference Working Group, November 27, 2007, OSL Offices in Warwick
Meeting came to order at 2:30.
Those in attendance: Barbara Bussart (WNS), Ann Poulos (PRO), Julie Holden (PAW), Jenifer Bond (WES), Linda Caisse (NKI), Mary Anne Quinn (WAR), Beth Johnson (CRA), Lisa Davis (OSL), Hope Houston (DSL), Pat LaRose (NPT)
Old Business:
Reference Round Table - very positive remarks. Only criticism given was not enough wrap-up discussion.
YART meeting - Reference 900s. New requirements for graduation.
Can/should we schedule a meeting which includes public/school librarians as well as teachers to make sure that we're working together on the new requirements?
Millennium issues -
Crazy results with keyword searching. If you limit to a particular library, there will sometimes be items listed, even though no copies are actually available. Peter/Rene say document everything - what computer, what time, etc.
Teleforms - Beth has had problems with items being listed as In Transit, even though they are on the hold shelf. Could this be a problem generated by the OSL move on 11/15? Keep track.
System error 28 means that a patron will NOT be notified of a hold.
Scopes for searching are determined by specific digits in the location code.
Millennium Encore - federated searching product - can search electronic resources and catalog.
Webinar - 12/6/07
What will this do that WEBPAC Pro can't do?
Will this committee look at this product and give an opinion at next meeting?
WPP - relevant keyword searching - related items / recommended items
Most of our catalog computers don't allow patron to access the internet. Public Browser would be null and void.
WebFeet - claims federated searching but was missing some results.
What is WebPacPro working on?
Does Helin use WebPacPro?
Federated searches - others are available. Should we investigate?
At this stage, this product doesn't seem overly useful. Possibly in time this will develop into something very worthwhile.
Early in January - create lists meeting in addition to regular meeting.
Every library should have 6 notices printed daily : Bills, Overdue notices, cancelled holds, title paging, item paging, hold pickups (also outstanding holds)
View holds - Circ module. Can each library fix their outstanding holds - expired date, cancelled holds, etc.
Printing lists often drops the volume # in series - can we extend that field to make it more possible to include the #?
EBSCO URL has changed.
OSL links have changed.
We need to re-connect with Rick about the web page for this committee.
Icons - 40 x 40. Lisa will check into the possibility of getting more.
Other: WEBPAC in HELIN - click on Book Jacket you get reviews, etc.
Followups -
Jenifer will talk to Rick
Lisa - LOTS of things!
January 29, 2:15 p.m. - create lists training for this committee. Everyone try to bring your own laptop with the client and MS Excel on it.
Meeting ended at 4:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted -
Barbara J. Bussart (WNS)
