LIT Committee Minutes: Thursday, September 3, 2009  9:30am at the Jamestown Philomenian Library

Call to order - Susan Moreland called the meeting to order at 9:45 am.

Minutes of the July 9, 2009 meeting - Mike made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting. Celeste seconded the motion. Motion passed and minutes passed.

1. Encore - Official launch in Cranston on September 14th.

On the OSL page (http://oslri.org) is an example of the Encore search function under "Catalog Search". Susan has put examples on the LIT forum and the Message Board.

General discussion of Encore features and comparisons to some other libraries.

• Federated Search uses Ebsco, World Book, and Heritage Quest, the databases common to all OSL Libraries. The user must be logged in.
• Does not show number of holds in Encore interface.
• Patrons can rate but no tagging as someone needs to be responsible for checking tags.
• Tags come from subject headings, marc records.
• The Cart does not save between logins.
• Authors are not hyperlinked in the results screen. They are linked in the initial listing.

2. There was a discussion of backup software. Snapbackup is free and goes to a USB drive.

3. November is Sue Moreland's last meeting as our stellar chair. Georgene will take over for the next year. Think about how we want to proceed.

4. The next meeting is at the OSL office November 12. Participants should bring their own beverage of choice and possibly an item of food to share.

5. Chaichin discussed the new Relais software for ILL. She would like tech people from the public libraries to attend an Overview on October 5th.  The first training for those individuals using the ILL will be on October 6th. Chaichin is looking for libraries to host.
