Luttmann (COV), Susan Moreland(NKI), Ed Garcia(CRA), Miguel DeFaria(CFA), Joan
Gillespie(OSL), Chris Jeffers(PAW), Celeste Dyer(CUM), Luke Owens(NPT), Lisa
Davis(OSL), Deborah Homer(JAM), Christie Getches(SKI)
Call to order – Susan Moreland called the meeting to order at
9:38am.
Minutes of the January 8,
2009 minutes meeting – Miguel made a motion to accept the minutes of the last
meeting. Susan seconded the motion. Motion passed and minutes passed.
Discussion of Web Forums:
WebJunction - downside is
that information is on their servers.
Discussion of Forums
presented on the LIT forum.
How
important is a calendar feature with the forum software since WordPress has an
integrated calendar. WordPress is not a given. Joan mentioned that III has a
calendar feature but that it was expensive. Eventkeeper was mentioned as a
calendar with many of the features needed such as an email function, self
register, subcategories of events, and ease of use.
General
discussion on the value of a Content Management System (CMS) to incorporate all
of the features needed. One place might make more sense. Christie questioned
the original requirement that the forum should be free. Such an integral tool
of OSL would be worth investigating products that charge.
Rick mentioned the website Bitnami
which makes installing wikis, blogs, CMS systems easier. They make “Application
Stacks” with all the different modules needed to get the open source
application up and running.
Decided to run some demo
versions of the various software. At the next meeting, March 5th in Cumberland, we will offer recommendations as to what OSL should use.
Susan will contact vBulletin
to see how to get a demo going and then post the particulars on the forum. Rick
will set up demos for:
Community Server
Web Wiz
Alfresco
Drupal
Other:
Plans for a “Demo Day” for
various products.
Christie is having trouble
with Public Browser. Susan thought the paid version for $125 would get rid of
any problems. Rick mentioned that version 8 of Internet Explorer will not save
any user information.
Christie wondered if there
was a way to view/save a copy of the Group Policy that was being used, perhaps
a way to share policies also. Rick directed us to http://support.oslri.net/publicpclockdown.html
on the support site where there is a full description and link to the Group
Policy Management Console.
OSL has ordered
Envisionware. Discussion of what equipment will be needed to operate the
different options. Joan says that the cost includes 4 days of onsite training
and OSL staff will attend so as to assist others later. Mike mentioned his
libraries’ specific policies involving minors on the Internet and how much of
that could be automatically taken care of through the software. CybraryN checks
the I type but unsure what Envisionware uses.
The next meeting is at
9:30am Thursday, March 5th in Cumberland.
Adjournment – the meeting
was adjourned at 11:15am.
