OSL Minutes: LIT Committee, June 28, 2007

At Warwick Public Library.

In attendance:  Susan Moreland (NKI), Georgene Luttmann (COV), Lisa Davis (OSL), Celeste Dyer (CUM), Deborah Homer (JAM), Miguel DeFaria (CFA), Jill Payette (PRO), David Sok (PRO), Joan Gillespie (OSL), Rick Payette (OSL), Chris Jeffers, (PAW), Mary Skaba ((BUR), Sharon Fredette (WAR), Dorey Conway (PRO), Mike Barrette (JOH), Erik Robinson (WWA), Karen McGrath (AUB)

I. Susan called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m.

II. We had a tour of the Warwick Library's Envisionware setup beginning with the Reference Desk staff who showed us how a patron would use the system to login, use the computer and get any printouts they might make.  We also spoke with a tech person about the Envisionware Control Center, installation, changes to the system, and other tech issues.  Everyone at Warwick seems pleased with this PC time and print management system.

Debbie Bruno, the sales rep from Envisionware, then offered to answer any other questions we might have.  She said Envisionware would offer a trade-in for any other PC time management system a library might own plus an additional 10% off if the order was placed before September 1st.  A library could contact her for pricing.  She needs to know the number of buildings, how many public PCs, and how many print release terminals.  There are three types of installation:  remote install, staff install with training and full install and training from Envisionware.

Support from Envisionware is via chat, email, Knowledge Base, or listserve.  Support is included the first year and 17% of the purchase price thereafter.

We also discussed the possibility of using the software consortium wide.  Each library would be a branch, but could configure their own profile.  Joan said it would be a possible Champlin Grant request.

III. Georgene moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved.  Deborah seconded.  Minutes approved.

There was a brief discussion of Overdrive.  All libraries will have access after July 1st.  At the moment, they can obtain a login for Content Reserve, the site to order materials, from Chris Laroux at GVL.  We discussed allowing downloads within the library and Rick mentioned that the fact that all PCs in a library have the same outside IP address might prevent that from working correctly.  The download stations that can be purchased from Overdrive don't seem to work very well.
IV. Next meeting:

The next meeting will be on September 6th at Cumberland.  We were going to have some Deep Freeze tips from Rick, but instead we will have a demo of the Venmill disc cleaner several people saw at RILA.  (Rick breathes a sigh of relief).

Meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
