STATEWIDE DATABASE LICENSES

WHAT IS IT:

Purchase of annual subscriptions (licenses) to selected electronic resources which will provide access to full-text magazine articles and to general research, health and consumer information.

WHY DO IT:

More cost effective than individual library subscriptions

Improved access for all school, public, academic and special Library users.

HOW TO DO IT:

Negotiate statewide access contracts with vendors for a broad spectrum of information databases.

 

A COMMON INTERFACE

WHAT IS IT:

An electronic linkage of all libraries in the state (school, public, academic and special) to function as a single database (catalog) of library collections.

WHY DO IT:

Will enable a library user to access the collections of all libraries in the state through one search process

HOW TO DO IT:

Purchase a server and software programs to link library catalogs. Provide staffing for system implementation, administration and technical support.

DELIVERY SERVICE

 

WHAT IS IT:

A statewide, courier service delivering books and other library materials to school, public, academic and special libraries.

WHY DO IT:

Cost effective resource sharing.

HOW TO DO IT:

Negotiate contract with courier service for expanded delivery service to the state’ libraries.

 

STATEWIDE UNION LIST OF SERIALS

 

WHAT IS IT:

An integrated database of magazines and journal holdings of all Rhode Island libraries.

WHY DO IT:

To assure access to a core set of information tools for students, businesses and citizens.

HOW TO DO IT:

Expand and enhance the database currently maintained by the Consortium of Rhode Island Academic and Research Libraries and by the Rhode Island Health Sciences Libraries
