E-Zone Committee Meeting Notes. Monday, August 30, 2010, 2 p.m. OSL Offices - Warwick
In attendance: Ed Garcia (CRA), Julie Holden (PAW), Karen Taylor (EGR), Lisa Davis (OSL), Deb Rock (WAR), Mary Ellen Hardiman (NPR), Mattie Gustafson (NPT), Celeste Dyer (CUM)
Roger Corriveau from Recorded Books gave a demo on the One Click Audio program (http://www.oneclickaudio.com/). This product is their downloadable audio equivalent to the E-Zone from Overdrive. The program works like iTunes in that once the patron downloads the software to their pc or laptop, all searching, browsing, and checkouts happen from within the software. A patron would need to create a username and password and then could transfer titles directly to their device or to their pc. The product has both multi-access titles and single-use titles. OSL would have to purchase a "core collection" from Recorded Books to start.
Committee discussed the new Download Stations and how each library was going to roll out the product. Some libraries are having space issues and there was discussion about locking pc's down with Public Web Browser. Suggestion for more/better promotional materials. Julie will contact Lisa Coreno from Overdrive about getting posters.
Suggestions for speeding up waiting lists: Deb suggested we change the default checkout period for all audiobooks to 14 days. The options for 7-day and 21-day checkout would remain. Discussion about changing ebook default to 14 days; committee decided to leave the default at 21 days since this loan period mirrors our physical book loan period and also because ebooks actually expire from portable devices on the due date. Lisa will check with Overdrive on this.
Also, Lisa will ask Overdrive to remind our patrons that they can return all Adobe epub and pdf books early by 1) adding a message to the "scrolling news" portion of the E-Zone site and 2) adding the same message to the checkout page of all ebooks.
Meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m. Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday October 20 at 2 p.m. OSL offices.
Respectfully submitted
Julie Holden, Chair
